QUALIFICATIONS:

  • New York State Coaching Certification
  • http://www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/certificate/coaching-temporary.html
  • Completion of CDC or NFHS Concussion Management Course
  • Strong leadership, organizational and communication skills with an emphasis on academics, sportsmanship and character development
  • Possess the ability to provide a challenging, first-class, positive experience for our students, while striving for excellence and teaching lifelong lessons

 

REPORTS TOAthletic Director

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Is familiar with the athletic policies of the Albion Central School District, N-O League, Section VI and N.Y.S.P.H.A.A.
  2. Attends coaches' meetings, clinics, in-service programs.
  1. Is available to counsel all participants in decision-making relative to college choice, vocation or daily problems.
  2. Cooperates with Athletic Director, all other coaches/sponsors to upgrade total athletic program.
  3. Cooperates with teaching staff, parents, members of the news media and other citizens to insure good public relations.
  1. Oversees the safety of the area in which the activities are conducted at  times when athletes are present.
  1. Promotes respect by example through appearance, manners, behavior, language and conduct during practices and contests.
  1. Is prompt and consistent in meeting team for practices and contests.
  1. Head Coach: Instructs Assistants, J.V. and Jr. High coaches in technique, offensive and defensive systems.
  1. J.V. Coach: Increases use of strategy, balances participation and winning.
  1. Jr. High Coaches: Effective in teaching fundamentals and  maximizes participation.

PRE-SEASON

  1. Holds a pre-season meeting with students and also informs parents (through meetings or letters) of the philosophy of the program and of rules and regulations (schedules, practice times, attendance, criteria for earning a varsity letter or certificate, etc.).
  1. Secures medical clearance of squad candidates according to policies of  ACS and N.Y.S.P.H.A.A. and S.E.D.
  1. Submits a list of candidates (tryout form) one week before the beginning date of the sports season to the Athletic Director for purpose of determining whether a student is eligible to compete in program.
  1. Is responsible for the ACS athletic participation-parental consent forms to be accurately completed prior to submitting them to the nurse.

IN-SEASON

  1. Submits Roster to the Athletic Director in a timely fashion.
  1. Issues equipment to players and maintains records of issued items.
  1. Plans, organizes and implements the teaching of fundamentals, strategy, rules and techniques.
  1. Properly supervises student-athletes.
  1. Follows department policies for athletic transportation.
  1. Teaches and reinforces good health habits with athletes, including the establishment of sound training rules.
  1. Maintains proper supplies, first aid kit and emergency cards at all times.
  1. In cooperation with the school nurse, implements procedures for handling injuries and completing injury report forms for student health records and insurance purposes.
  1. Promptly takes proper care of equipment, supplies and facilities.
  1. Provides an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship and assists visiting teams, coaches and officials.
  1. Teaches student-athletes to use only legitimate and ethical means in attempting to win a game.
  1. Reports varsity game scores and other pertinent information to news media immediately following the game in accordance with District, League and Section policies.

POST-SEASON (Items to be submitted to the Athletic Director)

  1. Submits a list of collected, inventoried and stored equipment at end of season and completes end of season reports in a timely manner.
  1. Makes recommendations concerning budget and equipment needs for the following season.
  1. Evaluate total program and submit any recommendations for program improvement to Athletic Director.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Seasonal; Salary to be established by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION: Performance evaluation completed each season by the Athletic Director
