TITLE:  Athletic Director

 

REPORTS TO:  Superintendent of Schools or Designee

LENGTH OF WORK YEAR:  Twelve Months

 

Qualifications

  1. Appropriate Administrative Certification Required
  2. Varsity Coaching Experience preferred
  3. Certification in Physical Education preferred, not required

 

Description

Generally responsible for providing leadership, coordination and innovation in the area of interscholastic athletics and physical education so that each student may derive the maximum benefits from their educational experience. This will be done in close cooperation with building and central administration. Develops and maintains a K-12 extracurricular program of athletics, interscholastic and intramural activities, which encourages satisfying participation by a broad cross-section of students.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities as Director of Athletics (Illustrative)

  1. Organize and administer the overall program of extra-curricular athletics for the District.

  2. Recruit, screen, interview, verify certification, conduct background checks and recommend coaches for interscholastic and intramural teams and athletic based clubs.

  3. Collaborate with NYSPHSAA, NYSED and Section VI to ensure that our student-athletes and coaches comply with policies, regulations and procedures.

  4. Organize and facilitate a seasonal “Meet the Coaches” event (fall, winter, spring).

  5. Supervise coaches and make changes as necessary.

  6. Conduct written evaluations of each coach and hold personal meeting with each coach following each season.

  7. Arrange schedules for all teams and secure officials for home contests.

  8. Coordinate the after-school use of indoor and outdoor facilities including approval of practice schedules.

  9. Provide professional development opportunities in the field of athletics, physical education.

10. Exercise responsibility for purchasing, including creating seasonal bid specifications for all athletic supplies, equipment and uniforms.

11. Arrange for intramural programs and schedule facility and field use for same.

12. Arrange transportation for athletic teams.

13. Exercise responsibility for supervision of all home interscholastic sporting events including recruiting, assigning and collaborating with business office for payment.

14. Represent the District at various league, conference and sectional meetings.

15. Coordinate public relations activities on behalf of the interscholastic teams, including serving as liaison with the Booster Club.

16. Coordinate athletic awards and recognition programs.

17. Assist in establishing academic and physical requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport, and verify each athlete’s eligibility.

18. Maintain an updated inventory of all uniforms and equipment.

19. Keep records of the results of all middle and senior high school contests, and athletic scholarships.

20. Assure provision for physical examination of all athletes prior to the beginning of each season, consistent with Board policy.

21. Implement and administer code of conduct terms and provisions.

22. Supervise the contract of the athletic trainer.

24. Works with school nurses to arrange for sports physicals.

25. Collaborate with district and building administrators in development of district goals for the athletic program.

26. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Twelve-month position; Salary to be established by the Board of Education; Salary range $85,000-$95,000 commensurate with experience; follows the Administrators' Contract; Anticipated start date, October 1, 2026             

EVALUATION:  Performance evaluation, completed annually by the Building Principal/Superintendent

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a secondary Science Teacher or relevant role
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current pedagogical skills and teaching and management

  • Experience working with children with a wide range of needs
  • Valid New York State certification in any Science Certification 7-12 or in a program leading to certification
  • Preferred: Additional science certification area

 

Essential Duties:

Albion Central School District is seeking a passionate and dedicated Middle School Science Teacher to inspire and educate students in the field of science. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Science, excellent classroom management skills, and the ability to develop engaging lesson plans that foster critical thinking and scientific inquiry. This position involves teaching various levels of Science, including general Science, Regents-level courses, and potential advanced or elective offerings.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, rigorous Science lessons aligned with state standards.
  • Teach fundamental and advanced Science concepts, including geology, meteorology, astronomy, and oceanography.
  • Design and facilitate hands-on laboratory experiments to enhance student learning.
  • Integrate technology and digital resources to support instruction and student engagement.
  • Assess student progress through assignments, exams, and projects, providing constructive feedback.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages curiosity and scientific exploration.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary learning experiences.
  • Prepare students for standardized tests, college readiness, and future careers in science.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate progress with parents and guardians.
  • Support the administration in implementing district policies and school regulations related to student life and conduct.
  • Attend scheduled meetings and serve on district and school committees.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and district requirements by maintaining accurate and complete records.
  • Pursue professional growth through ongoing reading, workshops, seminars, and conferences.
  • Regularly grade assignments and provide timely feedback to help students track their progress and address challenges early.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or district administrator.

Requirements:

  • NYS Certification in any Science 7-12 or in a program leading to certification

  • Fingerprint clearance through NYSED TEACH; Drug Testing; current TB test; current Physical (less than one year old) – all completed upon being hired for employment

Terms of Employment:  Ten-month year; salary to be established by the Board of Education; follows the ATA contract – (Step 1 - $49,037 - $55,000)

Evaluation: Completed by Administration and follows ATA contract

SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS NEEDED

CERTIFIED AND NON-CERTIFIED FOR PRE-K - GRADE 12

The Superintendent employs appropriately qualified substitute teachers. A substitute teacher is employed in the place of a regularly appointed teacher who is absent, but is expected to return.

The Board will annually establish the rate for per diem substitute teachers.

         New York State recognizes the following three categories of substitute teachers:

         a) Substitutes with valid NYS teaching certificates or certificates of qualification. A substitute teacher in this category may be employed in any capacity, for any number of days, in any number of school districts. However, if employed for more than 40 days by a school district in any given school year, the substitute teacher must be employed in the area for which they are certified.

         b) Substitutes without a valid NYS certificate, but who are completing collegiate study toward NYS certification at the rate of not less than six semester hours per year. A substitute teacher in this category may be employed in any capacity, for any number of days, in any number of school districts. However, if employed for more than 40 days by a school district in any given school year, the substitute teacher must be employed in the area for which they are seeking certification.

         c) Substitutes without a NYS valid certificate and who are not working towards NYS certification. A substitute teacher in this category may be employed in any capacity, but is limited to 40 days in one school district in any school year.

 

1 full day = more than four hours

1/2 day = up to and including four hours

Certified Instructors - $125 per day

Non-Certified Instructors - $105 per day

If you apply to be a substitute teacher, fingerprinting will be necessary at a cost of $102 and will be paid for by the substitute teacher applicant. (Please note the cost is the State Education Department processing fee.)
