Minimum Qualifications:

· Proven experience as an Elementary Education Teacher or relevant role

· Comprehensive knowledge of current pedagogical skills and teaching and management methodologies

· Experience working with children with a wide range of needs

· Valid New York State certification in N-6, K-6, Birth-2 and/or Grade 2-5

· Preferred: Three years of teaching experience

 

Essential Duties:

Educator will be responsible for teaching groups of students with a range of needs, gifts and talents. You will develop, monitor and adjust instruction to promote the growth of our students, which includes their intellectual, emotional, social and physical well-being.

Responsibilities:

· Assess children’s skills and learning requirements

· Assess students’ abilities and craft teaching plans

· Adapt learning materials to meet students’ needs

· Collaborate with Special Education and related service teachers in implementing Individualized Educational Plans (IEP’s), as applicable

· Inform parents about their children’s performance and potential problems

· Keep track of and reflect on students’ progress  

· Monitor children’s behavioral patterns and arrange appropriate interventions as needed

· Manage classroom crises and resolve conflict

· Prepare students for transition to the next grade

· Collaborate with the support staff (e.g. school counselors and speech therapists) to create holistic intervention plans, as applicable

· Assist the administration in implementing all District policies and/or building regulations and procedures governing student life and conduct

· Attend scheduled meetings; serve on District and building committees

· Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, by District policy, regulations and building procedures

· Provide for own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars and conferences

· Grade papers and homework regularly to keep students updated on how they are doing and to head off any problems before they become habit; feedback is essential

· Perform other duties as required by Building Principal and /or District Administrator

Responsibilities:

· Assess childrens’ skills and learning requirements

· Adapt learning materials to meet students’ needs

· Design Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs)

· Communicate the established objectives and expectations to students, parents and classroom teachers regarding IEP goals and curriculum standards

· Collaborate with parents and school staff to track students’ progress

· Inform parents about their children’s performance and potential problems

· Keep track of and reflect on students’ progress  

· Monitor children’s behavioral patterns and arrange appropriate interventions as needed

· Manage classroom crises and resolve conflict

· Prepare students for transition to the next grade

· Coach/mentor other professionals who work with children with disabilities

· Collaborate with the support staff (e.g. school counselors and speech therapists) to create holistic intervention plans

· Assist the administration in implementing all District policies and/or building regulations and procedures governing student life and conduct

· Attend scheduled meetings; serve on District and building committees

· Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, by District policy, regulations and building procedures

· Provide for own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars and conferences

· Perform other duties as required by Building Principal and /or District Administration

 School Counselor - Middle School

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Middle School Counselor is responsible for developing, implementing and managing a comprehensive school counseling program to serve the academic, social and career development needs of students enrolled in the Albion Central School District.  Perform other duties as required by Building Principal and/or District Administrator.

Development and Management

  • Uses data to develop and inform the school counseling program and evaluates the program’s impact on the school’s instructional goals
  • Uses the majority of the time (80%) to provide direct services to students through preventive and responsive services, individual student planning, and uses the remaining time in development and management, system support and accountability

Preventative and Responsive Services

  • Designs, implements and assesses the comprehensive counseling plan
  • Utilizes responsive counseling, initiating individual and group sessions for students’ academic, social and personal concerns
  • Consults with families and staff to appraise student needs and interests and to discuss appropriate recommendations for educational interventions
  • Assesses student needs and makes referrals to appropriate school resource personnel, social agencies, community agencies and alternative programs
  • Intervenes during crisis situations and participates on school crisis team

Individual Student Planning

  • Collaborates with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational and career planning. Participates in school management teams in order to advocate for students’ needs and provide guidance for school staff

System Support

  • Uses responsive counseling strategies to establish relationships and collaborate with educators, students, families, and community partners which reflect recognition of and respect for each individual  
  • Promotes an understanding and appreciation of diverse population and cultures.
  • Assists families in obtaining services for their children through an appropriate referral and follow-up process
  • Assists teachers in understanding their students, including providing and interpreting student data
  • Provides in-service training on topics related to the school counseling program and supporting student achievement
  • Collaborate with building administration each year to develop a comprehensive schedule suited to students’ needs as a whole and individual

Accountability

  • Prepares and submits a variety of requested reports and data, to ensure fulfillment of established program requirements
  • Uses all available data including academic grades, discipline referrals and attendance data, to identify students in need and to deliver recommended services

School Psychologist – High School

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide psychological services to schools, including psychoeducational evaluation, counseling, and consulting to assist in meeting the social, emotional, and educational needs of students in regular and special education programs being serviced by the Albion Central School District.

  • Administer and interpret psychological assessments of students;
  • Prepare recommendations regarding the evaluation and services for students;
  • Consult with teachers, administrators, specialists, agency and district personnel, and parents;
  • Counsel students; coordinate behavior management programs;
  • Provide psycho-educational assessments of students for districts and programs and participate in resulting Individual Educational Program (IEP) meetings;
  • Interpret psycho-educational assessment results;
  • Develop student goals and objectives;
  • Facilitate IEP meetings, as required;
  • Provide written reports analyzing, interpreting, and summarizing test results, observations and information from school personnel, students and parents;
  • Act as liaison between public and private agencies and county programs;
  • Develop, coordinate and provide training to staff, parents, agency and district personnel;
  • Maintain professional competencies in areas of responsibility;
  • Maintain contact with and participate in professional job-related organizations and serve as a liaison to professional groups;
